This is information, not legal advice

Everything on this site describes United States federal law in general terms. It is not legal advice, it is not tailored to your situation, and reading it creates no attorney-client relationship. Nobody here is acting as your lawyer.

The documents produced by the generators are assembled from text you type, arranged to match the elements the statute requires. They are not reviewed by anyone. You are the person signing them, and you are responsible for whether what they say is true.

Where the stakes are high, get a lawyer

Both a takedown notice and a counter-notice are sworn under penalty of perjury, and a counter-notice also means consenting to the jurisdiction of a federal court. If money, livelihood or a close call on fair use is involved, an hour with a copyright attorney costs far less than the alternatives.

What the generators do with what you type

Nothing leaves your browser. The pages are static files with no server behind them and no database anywhere. The text you enter is assembled locally by JavaScript running on your own machine, and it is gone when you close the tab. We never receive it and could not retrieve it if asked.

Accuracy and currency

Statutes are amended and courts change how they are read. Every page carries the date it was last reviewed. Where something is a platform's own policy rather than the law, the page says so, because platform policies change far more often than the statute does.

If you find something here that is wrong or out of date, it is worth telling us so it can be corrected.

Jurisdiction

The DMCA is United States law. If you are outside the US, it still reaches you whenever the platform you use is American, which is most of them, but your own country's copyright rules apply alongside it and can differ substantially. The European Union's approach in particular is built differently, and nothing here should be read as describing it.
